BCP = Book of Common Prayer
(1662) |
|
CW = Common Worship (2000) |
| "The Book of Common Prayer" has been the staple
diet of the Church of England since 1549, when Archbishop Cranmer produced the
first edition. He revised it extensively in 1552 to answer 'protestant'
criticisms of his first version. The 1662 version has been in use by the Church
of England, with only minor modifications, from that date until the ASB was
produced in 1980. |
|
"Common Worship" is the successor to "The
Alternative Service Book" of 1980. It is the result of many years use of
'experimental services' and is the legal alternative to the BCP. For the
Eucharist we have created a bound volume of services for different seasons. For
'Occasional Offices' Cards and leaflets are printed locally. |

CCP = Celebrating Common Prayer
(1992) |
| "Patterns for Worship" is the first installment of
the book that will eventually replace the Alternative Service Book. We use the
pattern for the Service of the Word from this book for all of our informal
services. |
|
"Celebrating Common Prayer" started life as a new
Office Book for the (Anglican) Society of St. Francis. It has since
been adopted by many of the clergy of the Church of England for their daily
offices, in place of the BCP or ASB services of Morning and Evening Prayer. It
also includes suitable prayers for mid-day and night-time. (Compline) |
